Unrestrained Battle Description and Śakuni’s Rear Assault
राजानं योधयामास पश्यतां सर्वधन्विनाम् | तब धृष्टद्युम्न भी दूसरा उत्तम धनुष लेकर समरभूमिमें सम्पूर्ण धनुर्थरोंके देखते-देखते राजा दुर्योधनके साथ युद्ध करने लगे
sañjaya uvāca | rājānaṃ yodhayāmāsa paśyatāṃ sarva-dhanvinām | tataḥ dhṛṣṭadyumno bhī dvitīyaḥ uttamaṃ dhanuḥ gṛhītvā samara-bhūmau sampūrṇa-dhanurdharāṇāṃ dṛśyatāṃ rājā duryodhanena saha yuddhaṃ cakāra |
Sanjaya said: Before the eyes of all the bowmen, he engaged the king in combat. Then Dhrishtadyumna too, taking up another excellent bow, fought with King Duryodhana on the battlefield in full view of the assembled archers—an episode that underscores how, in the climactic war, personal valor and public witness intensify the moral weight of each duel.
संजय उवाच
The passage highlights how kshatriya action in war is not merely private bravery but a public, witnessed deed that carries ethical consequence; the battlefield becomes a stage where duty, reputation, and accountability converge.
Sanjaya reports that Duryodhana is engaged in combat before all the archers; then Dhrishtadyumna takes up another fine bow and enters into direct battle with Duryodhana on the battlefield, in full view of the assembled warriors.
