Unrestrained Battle Description and Śakuni’s Rear Assault
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे वीरं राजानमपराजितम् । अपोवाह रथेनाजौ सहदेव: प्रतापवान्,इसी बीचमें प्रतापी सहदेव युद्धमें किसीसे परास्त न होनेवाले वीर राजा युधिष्ठिरको अपने रथपर बिठाकर दूर हटा ले गये
etasminn antare vīraṃ rājānam aparājitam | apovāha rathenājau sahadevaḥ pratāpavān ||
Sanjaya said: In that moment, the valiant Sahadeva—radiant with prowess—drew away by chariot from the battlefield the heroic king Yudhishthira, who could not be overcome, removing him to a safer distance.
संजय उवाच
Even in war, dharma includes discernment: safeguarding the rightful leader and choosing strategic withdrawal when necessary can be more righteous than stubbornly courting destruction. Valor is shown not only by attack but also by timely protection and responsibility.
Sañjaya reports that Sahadeva, in the heat of battle, places King Yudhiṣṭhira—described as unconquered—upon his chariot and drives him away from immediate danger, moving him to a safer position.
