A wise attendant or counselor serves dharma by calming a ruler’s agitation through respectful demeanor and truthful, gentle speech; compassion and measured words are ethical instruments of governance.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra is repeatedly sighing in distress; Vidura, with folded hands, repeatedly reassures and consoles him using sweet, soothing words.
