Aśvatthāmā’s Stuti of Rudra and Śiva’s Empowerment (सौप्तिकपर्व, अध्याय ७)
tvayi sarvāṇi bhūtāni sarvabhūteṣu cāsi vai | guṇānāṃ hi pradhānānām ekatvaṃ tvayi tiṣṭhati, prabho ||
O Universal Self, O Mahādeva! In this time of peril, with devotion toward you, I gather my mind into perfect one-pointedness and lay this offering before you (accept it). All beings abide in you, and you abide within all beings. In you alone the foremost qualities stand united, O Lord.
The verse teaches Shiva’s all-pervading nature: all beings rest in him and he is present within all beings; the diverse fundamental qualities are unified in him, making him the underlying ground of multiplicity.
Sanjaya speaks in a devotional register, offering praise to Mahadeva in the aftermath of the night-raid context of the Sauptika Parva, emphasizing divine immanence and sovereignty as a frame for the unfolding calamity and its moral weight.
