एकसर्थप्रयातौ स्वस्त्वया सह नरर्षभ । समदुःखसुखौ चापि नावां शड्कितुमरहसि
ekārthaprayātau svastvayā saha nararṣabha | samaduḥkhasukhau cāpi nāvāṁ śaṅkitum arhasi ||
Sañjaya said: “O bull among men, you and I have set out together for a single purpose. We have shared both sorrow and joy alike; therefore you ought not to suspect me.”
संजय उवाच
Shared purpose and shared experience create an ethical basis for trust; one should not hastily suspect a companion who has stood with one through both hardship and happiness.
Sañjaya addresses a noble listener (naraṛṣabha), defending his reliability: since they have journeyed together toward the same goal and endured the same joys and sorrows, the listener should not doubt or suspect him.
