Narada said: “O King, do you ensure that the instructors and officials entrusted with training are themselves grounded in dharma and fully proficient in all the śāstras, and that they impart every necessary discipline—thoroughly—to the princes as well as to the foremost warriors?”
नारद उवाच
A ruler’s strength depends on the quality and integrity of those who educate and train the next generation. Instruction must be rooted in dharma and guided by comprehensive knowledge of the śāstras, so that princes and commanders develop disciplined competence rather than mere power.
Nārada is testing and advising the king through a series of ‘kaccit’ questions typical of rāja-nīti. Here he asks whether the kingdom ensures proper, dharma-informed training for royal heirs and leading warriors under truly learned and trustworthy instructors.
