tasya bhīmasya bhīṣmeṇa vāryamāṇasya bhārata | guruṇā vividhair vākyaiḥ krodhaḥ praśamam āgataḥ ||
O Bhārata, when Bhīma was being restrained by Bhīṣma—the revered elder—through many kinds of admonishing words, Bhīma’s anger subsided and returned to calm.
Anger, even when justified by provocation, should be restrained; the guidance of elders and teachers (guru) can restore balance and prevent rash action that would violate dharma.
Bhīma is in a state of anger and is being held back. Bhīṣma, acting as a venerable elder, restrains him with varied counsel, and as a result Bhīma’s wrath subsides.
