घातयित्वा जरासंध॑ बुद्धिपूर्वमरिंदम: । धर्मराजमनुज्ञाप्य पृथां कृष्णां च भारत
vaiśampāyana uvāca | ghātayitvā jarāsandhaṃ buddhipūrvam ariṃdamaḥ | dharmarājam anu jñāpya pṛthāṃ kṛṣṇāṃ ca bhārata ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Having caused Jarāsandha to be slain through deliberate strategy, the subduer of foes (Kṛṣṇa) sought the consent of King Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira), and also of Pṛthā (Kuntī) and Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), O Bhārata. Acting with their approval, he prepared to depart.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when a difficult enemy is removed through clever strategy, ethical conduct requires deference to rightful authority and family elders—seeking consent and maintaining propriety after victory.
After Jarāsandha has been brought to death through a planned approach, Kṛṣṇa formally asks and receives permission from Yudhiṣṭhira, Kuntī, and Draupadī before proceeding with his next step (departure in the broader episode).
