Arjuna’s Northern Conquests and Tribute Collection
तत्रैनं नागरा: सर्वे सत्कारेणाभ्ययुस्तदा । ब्राह्मणप्रमुखा राजन विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा,जनमेजय! वहाँ ब्राह्मण आदि सभी नागरिकोंने शास्त्रीय विधिसे उनका सत्कार एवं पूजन किया
tatrainaṁ nāgarāḥ sarve satkāreṇābhyayus tadā | brāhmaṇapramukhā rājan vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā ||
There, all the townspeople—led by the Brahmins—then approached him and received him with honour. O King, they performed his welcome and worship according to the rites sanctioned by the scriptures.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic social conduct: honouring a worthy guest through satkāra performed in accordance with scriptural injunctions (vidhi). Ethical life is shown as communal, orderly, and rooted in prescribed rites rather than mere impulse.
Vaiśampāyana narrates to King Janamejaya that, at that place, all the citizens—especially with Brahmins in the lead—approached the person in question and formally welcomed and worshipped him using proper Vedic/śāstric procedure.
