Samrāt-Lakṣaṇa and the Counsel to Check Jarāsandha (सम्राट्-लक्षणं जरासन्ध-प्रतिबाधा-परामर्शः)
तथा तु डिम्भकं श्रुत्वा हंस: परपुरंजय: । प्रपेदे यमुनामेव सो5पि तस्यां न्न्यमज्जत
tathā tu ḍimbhakaṃ śrutvā haṃsaḥ parapuraṃjayaḥ | prapede yamunām eva so 'pi tasyāṃ nimajjata ||
Hearing in this way of Ḍimbhaka’s death, Haṃsa—renowned as a conqueror of enemy cities—overwhelmed by grief for his brother, leapt into the Yamunā and there too sank and died.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
Even great strength and worldly success can be undone by uncontrolled grief; attachment, when it overwhelms discernment, leads to self-destruction and compounds tragedy.
After learning that Ḍimbhaka has died, his brother Haṃsa—famed for conquering enemy cities—jumps into the Yamunā out of sorrow and drowns, so both brothers perish.
