Nārada said: At that time the Asuras milked out māyā—deceptive, illusory power—into an unbaked, raw vessel. There Dvimūrdhā was the milker, and Virocana became the calf.

Educational Q&A

The verse uses a symbolic 'milking' image to contrast tendencies: the Asuras extract and preserve māyā (deception/illusion) rather than truth or dharma. The 'unbaked vessel' suggests an unfit, unstable receptacle—implying that what is gathered through adharma lacks sound foundation and leads to distortion rather than nourishment.

Nārada describes an allegorical scene: the Asuras perform a milking, but instead of wholesome milk they draw out māyā into a raw vessel. Dvimūrdhā acts as the milker, and Virocana functions as the calf, completing the traditional elements of a milking metaphor used to depict the extraction of a particular 'essence' or outcome.
