Vyāsa relates that, seeing Lord Maheśvara (Rudra) enraged, all the gods fell at his feet in fear and assigned him a distinct share in the sacrificial offering. When his anger subsided, the sacrifice was completed; and from that time onward the gods have remained wary of Rudra, remembering how they once fled in terror.

Power must be acknowledged with rightful honor: when a divine or moral authority is denied its due, disorder and fear arise; when proper recognition and humility are shown, harmony is restored and the rite (social order) can be completed.
The gods witness Rudra/Śiva’s anger and, frightened, bow at his feet and grant him a special portion of the sacrificial offerings; once appeased, Śiva allows the sacrifice to be completed, and the gods continue to remember and fear his might.
