Sañjaya said: Seeing Droṇa standing ready with the intent of bringing about the destruction of the Kṣatriyas, many great seers hurried to that place, with Agni (the Fire-god) leading them.

Even in a righteous war, intent matters: a shift from duty-bound combat to wholesale annihilation invites moral and cosmic concern. The arrival of sages led by Agni signals that dharma includes restraint and accountability, and that extreme violence can provoke intervention by higher moral authorities.
Sañjaya reports that Droṇa is seen poised to cause the ruin of the Kṣatriyas. Alarmed by this prospect, many ṛṣis quickly come to the scene with Agni at their head, implying an attempt to counsel, check, or redirect Droṇa’s course.
