Sanjaya said: With Bhimasena at their head, the warriors on one side closed in and hemmed Drona in. From another direction, the valiant Panchalas, loosing sharp arrows, pressed hard to strike down Dronacharya. Thus, amid the fury of battle, Drona was simultaneously assailed and surrounded.

The passage highlights the ethical strain of war: even a venerable guru like Drona becomes an enemy combatant when he leads an opposing army. It reflects how dharma in battle often forces warriors to act against personal reverence, prioritizing duty, allegiance, and the perceived necessity of ending a destructive conflict.
Sanjaya describes Drona being attacked on multiple fronts: Bhima and other warriors keep him encircled from one side, while the Panchala heroes strike from another with sharp arrows, attempting to bring Drona down amid intense fighting.
