Seeing the great chariot-warrior Sātyaki gaining the upper hand, Karṇa swiftly leapt in between to protect your son. But the mighty Bhīmasena could not endure that act; at once he charged at Karṇa, loosing a great multitude of arrows.

The verse highlights the kṣatriya ethic in war: when an opponent intervenes to protect his side, the response is immediate and forceful. It also shows how intolerance of a perceived affront or tactical obstruction can drive action—raising the moral tension between controlled duty and anger-driven retaliation.
Seeing Karṇa leap in to shield the Kaurava prince(s) as Sātyaki gains the upper hand, Bhīma cannot tolerate that intervention. He rapidly charges Karṇa and showers him with many arrows, initiating a direct clash.
