Educational Q&A

Even in war, certain relationships—especially the guru–śiṣya bond—carry such moral and emotional weight that they can momentarily suspend violence. The verse highlights restraint born from reverence and the recognition that some conflicts are ethically charged beyond ordinary combat.

Sañjaya reports that all the warriors pause and withdraw from active fighting because they are watching an extraordinary duel between a teacher and his disciple. The spectacle is so rare and intense that it draws collective attention and halts the broader clash.
