Sañjaya said: Driven by tremendous speed and fierce resolve, the two rushed at one another. There, as they closed in and grappled at close quarters, those two champions—seasoned in the ways of battle—met in a tight, violent clash.

The verse highlights the kṣatriya battlefield ethos: when wrath and momentum take hold, conflict rapidly becomes intimate and unavoidable. Ethically, it underscores how anger (saṁrambha) accelerates violence, narrowing choices and drawing opponents into direct, bodily confrontation.
Sañjaya describes two unnamed champions charging at each other with great speed and fury, then locking together in close quarters—an intense moment of hand-to-hand engagement within the larger battle.
