Sañjaya said: Seeing the spear-weapon set in Karṇa’s arm, the beings in the sky cried out in fear, O king. Then violent winds arose, and with dreadful thunder a lightning-bolt struck the earth—an ominous sign that the fury of war was drawing the world itself into terror and disorder.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how adharma-driven violence in war is mirrored by fear and disturbance in the natural and celestial realms; ominous signs underscore the moral gravity and fateful consequences of destructive intent.

Sañjaya reports that when the powerful śakti-weapon is seen positioned in Karṇa’s arm, beings in the sky cry out in alarm, and violent winds and a thunderbolt strike the earth—portents accompanying a critical moment in battle.
