Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how a righteous cause in war can hinge on the presence of a single steadfast protector: courage, hope, and collective resolve often depend on a trusted leader. Ethically, it underscores the responsibility borne by such a champion—others’ morale and survival are tied to his constancy.

Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, emphasizes Arjuna’s indispensability: if Arjuna were removed from the battlefield, his brothers and their supporters would lose the will to live even briefly, indicating the central strategic and psychological role Arjuna plays in the Pāṇḍava camp.
