Karṇa and Arjuna’s Intensified Engagement

samājam iva tac citraṁ prekṣamāṇā mahārathāḥ | nālakṣayan jayaṁ vyaktam ekasyaiva mahāraṇe ||

Sañjaya said: Watching that astonishing scene, like a wondrous assembly, the great chariot-warriors could not clearly discern a definite victory for either one alone in that vast battle.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the limits of human judgment in the fog of war: even expert warriors cannot always see a clear, rightful outcome. It suggests humility before the complexity of karma, strategy, and dharma when violence escalates beyond easy moral or tactical certainty.

Sañjaya describes a remarkable and confusing combat spectacle. The assembled elite warriors watch closely, yet they cannot determine that victory is clearly going to either one of the two principal combatants in that great encounter.
