Book 7, Chapter 132

kathaṃ sātyakibhīmāśabhyāṃ vyatikrānto'si mānada |

Sañjaya said: “How were you bypassed by Sātyaki and Bhīmasena, O bestower of honor? Even if one concedes that the great chariot-warrior Arjuna, mightier in battle, pressed past you on the field, how did those two also overstep your defense?”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights accountability and the ethics of martial duty: a commander or revered elder is questioned when the enemy penetrates the formation, implying that honor must be matched by effective protection and responsibility in war.

Sañjaya challenges the Kaurava-side leader (addressed as 'mānada') about how key Pāṇḍava allies—Sātyaki and Bhīma—managed to break through the defenses. He grants that Arjuna might have forced his way through due to superior prowess, but asks how the others also crossed past.
