Sañjaya said: In the thick of battle, Sudarśana struck the foremost of the Sātvatas—Sātyaki—with hundreds of razor-sharp arrows. Yet, O king, that best of the Śinis cut those shafts down even before they could reach him, displaying disciplined mastery amid the violence of war.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined skill and presence of mind: even under heavy assault, a warrior who is trained and steady can respond without panic. Ethically, it reflects kṣatriya-dharma in war—courage and competence—while also reminding that prowess can neutralize aggression without losing composure.

Sudarśana showers Sātyaki with hundreds of sharp arrows. Sātyaki, famed as the best of the Śinis and a leading Sātvata warrior, intercepts and cuts the arrows before they reach him.
