Śaineya’s Breakthrough and Reunion with Arjuna (शैनेयस्य समागमः)
sahadevas tu viṁśatyā dharmarājaś ca pañcabhiḥ | śatena nakulaś cāpi hārdikyaṁ samavidhyata ||
Sañjaya said: Sahadeva struck Kṛtavarmā (Hārdikya) with twenty arrows; King Yudhiṣṭhira with five; and Nakula too pierced him with a hundred. Thus, in the fierce press of battle, the Pāṇḍavas answered aggression with measured yet overwhelming force, intent on checking a formidable warrior rather than indulging in needless cruelty.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in action: when a dangerous opponent threatens the order of battle, righteous warriors respond decisively. The emphasis is not on hatred but on effective restraint—using force proportionate to the need to neutralize harm.
Sañjaya reports that Sahadeva, Yudhiṣṭhira, and Nakula collectively shower Kṛtavarmā (Hārdikya) with arrows—twenty, five, and a hundred respectively—indicating a coordinated Pāṇḍava assault to check his advance in the Drona Parva battle.
