Sātyaki’s passage and Duryodhana’s mass engagement
अपश्यन्नस्मदीयाश्र ते च यौधिष्लिरा: स्थिता:
apaśyann asmadīyāśr te ca yodhiṣṭhirāḥ sthitāḥ
Sañjaya said: Not seeing our own men, those warriors stood firm under Yudhiṣṭhira’s leadership—steadfast in their resolve amid the pressures of battle.
संजय उवाच
Even in confusion and uncertainty—when one cannot clearly see one’s own side—steadfastness under rightful leadership and commitment to duty are emphasized as essential martial virtues, framed within the larger dharmic struggle of the war.
Sañjaya reports a battlefield moment to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: amid the clash, ‘our men’ are not visible/are not being seen, while the opposing fighters aligned with Yudhiṣṭhira remain in position, suggesting cohesion and firmness on that side.
