भीष्मभीमसमागमः — Bhīṣma–Bhīma Strategic Engagement and Counsel to the King
ओपषधी वीर्यसम्पन्नां विशल्यश्वाभवत् तदा । 'पाण्डवोंको मैं युद्धमें जीतूँगा अथवा पाण्डव ही मुझे परास्त कर देंगे।! ऐसा कहकर भीष्मजीने दुर्योधनको विशल्यकरणी नामक शुभ एवं शक्तिशालिनी ओषधि प्रदान की। उस समय उसके प्रभावसे दुर्योधनके शरीरमें धँसे हुए बाण आसानीसे निकल गये और वह आधातजनित घाव तथा उसकी पीड़ासे मुक्त हो गया
oṣadhī vīryasampannāṃ viśalyaśvābhavat tadā | pāṇḍavānko mayi yuddhe jayiṣyāmi athavā pāṇḍavā eva māṃ parājayiṣyanti iti uktvā bhīṣmaḥ duryodhanāya viśalyakaraṇī-nāmikāṃ śubhāṃ śaktiśālinīm oṣadhīṃ pradadau | tadā tasya prabhāvena duryodhanasya śarīre niṣaṇṇāḥ bāṇāḥ sukhena niścakrmuḥ sa cāghātajanita-vraṇāt tad-duḥkhāc ca vimukto 'bhavat ||
Sañjaya said: Then that potent herb proved to be a “remover of arrows”. Declaring, “Either I shall defeat the Pāṇḍavas in battle, or the Pāṇḍavas will surely overcome me,” Bhīṣma gave Duryodhana an auspicious and powerful medicinal herb called Viśalyakaraṇī. By its efficacy, the arrows embedded in Duryodhana’s body came out easily, and he was freed from the wound caused by the blow and from its pain.
संजय उवाच
Even amid war, the epic highlights responsibility and care: a warrior may remain committed to battle, yet still uphold humane conduct by relieving suffering. Bhīṣma’s act shows that strength includes the capacity to protect and heal, not only to harm.
Bhīṣma gives Duryodhana a powerful herb called Viśalyakaraṇī. Its effect removes the arrows lodged in Duryodhana’s body and relieves his wound and pain, restoring him for the continuing conflict.
