Sañjaya said: O King, then the battlefield shone everywhere, here and there, lit up by the bodies of the monarchs whose radiance was like that of the moon and the sun.

The verse highlights the contrast between worldly brilliance and the harsh truth of war: even the most radiant royal power is transient, and splendor does not shield one from the consequences of conflict. It invites reflection on kṣatriya duty and the cost of glory.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, saying that the field appeared resplendent everywhere because many kings, radiant like the moon and sun, were present across the battle lines.
