Duryodhana said: “Grandfather, Vāsudeva (Śrī Kṛṣṇa) is spoken of throughout all the worlds as a mighty, extraordinary being. Therefore I wish to know his origin and the basis of his established greatness.”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse frames a dharmic mode of inquiry: true greatness (pratiṣṭhā) invites examination of its source (āgama). Even amid the war setting, the text foregrounds Kṛṣṇa’s supra-human stature and the legitimacy of seeking to understand the grounds of spiritual and moral authority.
At the opening of the chapter, Duryodhana addresses Bhīṣma as ‘Grandfather’ and asks him to explain Kṛṣṇa—widely acclaimed across the worlds—specifically requesting an account of Kṛṣṇa’s origin/advent and the basis of his established eminence.
