Bhīṣma–Dhanaṃjaya Duel and the Opening Clash
तयोर्नवरयोर्दृष्टवा तादृशं त॑ पराक्रमम्
tayor nara-varyor dṛṣṭvā tādṛśaṃ taḥ parākramam
Sañjaya said: Having witnessed such extraordinary prowess displayed by those two foremost of men, he was struck by the force of their valor—an ominous sign of how fiercely the conflict was unfolding and how power, when yoked to war, tests the bounds of duty and restraint.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how witnessing immense martial prowess can signal the gravity of dharma under strain: valor is admirable, yet in war it also intensifies ethical pressure—duty, restraint, and right conduct are tested when power is unleashed.
