Chapter 55: Bhīṣma’s onslaught, Arjuna’s counter, and Kṛṣṇa’s raised discus
एवमेते महाराज प्रह्ृष्टा: कुरुपाण्डवा: । पुनर्युद्धाय संजग्मुस्तापयाना: परस्परम्,महाराज! इस प्रकार ये हर्षमें भरे हुए कौरव-पाण्डव एक-दूसरेको संताप देते हुए पुनः युद्धके लिये रणक्षेत्रमें जा पहुँचे
evam ete mahārāja prahṛṣṭāḥ kuru-pāṇḍavāḥ | punar yuddhāya saṃjagmus tāpayānāḥ parasparam ||
Sañjaya said: “Thus, O King, the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas—elated and stirred—went again to battle, each inflicting anguish upon the other.” The verse underscores the tragic momentum of war: even joy and excitement become fuel for mutual harm when dharma is eclipsed by rivalry.

The verse highlights how exhilaration in conflict can mask the moral cost of violence: when rivalry dominates, even ‘joy’ becomes complicit in adharma through mutual torment.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that both armies—the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas—reassembled and moved back into combat, resuming the battle while inflicting suffering on each other.
