Chapter 55: Bhīṣma’s onslaught, Arjuna’s counter, and Kṛṣṇa’s raised discus
teṣāṃ śrutvā tu hṛṣṭānāṃ vṛddhaḥ kurūpitāmahaḥ | siṃhanādaṃ vinadyoccaiḥ śaṅkhaṃ dadhmau pratāpavān ||
Hearing the jubilant cries of his delighted warriors, the aged grandsire of the Kurus—Bhīṣma, mighty in prowess—roared aloud like a lion and blew his conch, affirming resolve and rallying his side to fulfill the warrior’s righteous duty in the coming battle.

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: a leader strengthens collective resolve through courage and clear signals, turning emotion (jubilation) into disciplined readiness for duty.
Sañjaya reports that, on hearing his side’s triumphant shouts, the aged Kuru grandsire Bhīṣma roars like a lion and blows his conch loudly, serving as a rallying call before battle.
