Chapter 51: Saṃdhyākāla-saṃhāra
Evening Withdrawal after Arjuna’s Counter-Advance
स तै: परिवृत: शूरो धार्तराष्ट्रमहारथै: । ववर्ष शरवर्षाणि कार्ष्णि: पञ्चरथान् प्रति,दुर्योधनके उन महारथियोंसे घिर जानेपर भी शूरवीर अर्जुनकुमार उन पाँचों रथियोंपर बाण-वर्षा करता रहा
sa taiḥ parivṛtaḥ śūro dhārtarāṣṭra-mahārathaiḥ | vavarṣa śara-varṣāṇi kārṣṇiḥ pañca-rathān prati ||
Sañjaya said: Though surrounded by the great chariot-warriors of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s host, the valiant Kārṣṇi (son of Kṛṣṇa/Arjuna) continued to pour down showers of arrows against those five charioteers. The scene underscores steadfast courage and disciplined resolve in the midst of overwhelming opposition on the battlefield.
संजय उवाच
Steadfastness under pressure: even when encircled by powerful opponents, a warrior committed to duty maintains composure and sustained effort, embodying disciplined courage rather than panic.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, though hemmed in by Kaurava great chariot-warriors, keeps up an intense barrage of arrows directed at a group of five chariot-fighters opposing him.
