Chapter 47: Krauñca-vyūha Deployment and Conch-Signals
Kaurava–Pāṇḍava Readiness
ऋषयश्न महाभागा: पुरस्कृत्य शतक्रतुम् । समीयुस््तत्र सहिता द्रष्ट॑ं तद् वैशसं महत्
sañjaya uvāca | ṛṣayaś ca mahābhāgāḥ puraskṛtya śatakratum | samīyus tatra sahitā draṣṭuṃ tad vaiśasaṃ mahat ||
Sañjaya said: The blessed great seers, placing Śatakratu (Indra) at their head, assembled there together to behold that vast and dreadful slaughter. The sight drew even gods, gandharvas, the Pitṛs, siddhas, and cāraṇas as witnesses, showing how the war’s violence became a cosmic event that tested the order of dharma and the consequences of human choice.

The verse highlights that the war’s violence is not merely political but morally and cosmically significant: even exalted sages gather to witness it, implying that adharma and its consequences become visible on a grand stage, inviting reflection on responsibility and the cost of conflict.
Sañjaya reports that great sages assemble at the battlefield, with Indra placed at their forefront, to observe the immense carnage unfolding—framing the Kurukṣetra conflict as an event watched by higher beings.
