Sañjaya said: “Those two subduers of foes would say, ‘May victory be the Pāṇḍu-sons!’ Yet, in accordance with the pledge they had made, they fought the Pāṇḍavas for your sake.” The verse lays bare the moral tension: inwardly they bless the side of dharma, outwardly they are bound by vow and allegiance.

Even when one recognizes the righteous side, one may still be bound by prior commitments (samaya) and allegiance; the verse foregrounds the ethical strain between inner conviction and outward duty, urging reflection on the weight and consequences of vows.
Sañjaya reports that two great warriors (understood in context as Bhīṣma and Droṇa) verbally bless the Pāṇḍavas’ victory, yet they continue to fight against them on behalf of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, because they had pledged to support his side.
