Even within the violence of war, dharmic culture recognizes moments of restraint and reverence: the warriors pause fighting and attend upon a venerable leader, implying that moral authority and respect for elders can command allegiance beyond mere force.
After a phase of fighting, vast numbers of warriors stop battling and gather around Bhishma, attending him with deference; the scene is likened to the gods assembling around Prajapati.
