अतिष्ठदाहवे भीष्मो भिद्यमानेषु मर्मसु । वहाँ ऊँची और नीची भूमिका भी कुछ ज्ञान नहीं हो पाता था, दसवें दिनके उस युद्धमें अपने मर्मस्थानोंके विदीर्ण होते रहनेपर भी भीष्मजी दस हजार योद्धाओंको मारकर वहाँ खड़े हुए थे || ७८ ह ।।
Translation
Bhīṣma stood fast in the press of battle, even as his vital points were being shattered. On that tenth day of war, though his marmas—his life-centers—were continually torn open, Bhīṣma slew ten thousand warriors and still remained standing there. Then, at the very front of that host, Pārtha, the bowman, took his stand.
