न तत्रासीद् रणे राजन् सोमकानां महारथ:
na tatrāsīd raṇe rājan somakānāṃ mahārathaḥ
Sañjaya said: O King, in that battle there was no great chariot-warrior left among the Somakas—none capable of standing firm in the press of war.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the human cost of war: when conflict escalates beyond restraint, even celebrated warrior houses can be left without protectors. It implicitly warns that power and fame are fragile before the consequences of collective violence.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, in that phase of the Kurukṣetra battle, no great chariot-warrior remained among the Somakas—indicating severe losses on that side.
