Sañjaya said: Those warriors went to the world beyond, as though entering Death himself with gaping mouth. Unyielding in battle—never showing their backs—endowed with valor and bearing golden standards, they advanced upon Bhīṣma; and, together with their horses, chariots, and elephants, they became travelers on the road to the next world.

Educational Q&A

Even the bravest warriors—steadfast and disciplined—remain subject to death; war tests dharma and courage, yet culminates in impermanence, reminding the listener that martial glory cannot override the moral and existential cost of violence.

Sañjaya describes a group of valiant fighters advancing toward Bhīṣma with unwavering resolve and splendid standards; confronting him proves fatal, and they fall in battle along with their mounts and war-vehicles, metaphorically entering Death itself.
