Sañjaya said: When the two armies, in that exceedingly dreadful clash of prowess, surged and ran about within their respective divisions, the very earth—this broad ground that bears all—began to tremble. The scene signals that the conflict has reached a pitch where human ambition and wrath shake not only men but the moral and natural order that sustains them.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how unchecked martial fury and mass violence reverberate beyond the battlefield, symbolically shaking the very earth—suggesting that adharma and destructive passion disturb the wider moral and natural order.

Sañjaya describes the battle intensifying: warriors in both armies rush about within their formations, displaying terrifying prowess, and the ground itself is said to tremble as an omen-like sign of the conflict’s magnitude.
