Adhyāya 112: Bhīṣma-prati Arjunasya Pravṛttiḥ
Arjuna’s Forward Drive Toward Bhīṣma
संग्रामाद् व्यपयातव्यमेतत् कर्म ममाह्विकम् | इति तत् कृतवांश्वाहं यथोक्तं भरतर्षभ
saṅgrāmād vyapayātavyam etat karma mamāhvikaṃ | iti tat kṛtavānś cāhaṃ yathoktaṃ bharatarṣabha |
Sañjaya said: “I must not withdraw from the battlefield—this is my vowed, daily duty. Thus have I acted, O bull among the Bharatas, exactly as I had declared.”
संजय उवाच
The verse foregrounds steadfastness to a declared duty (karma) and vow: one should not abandon an undertaken responsibility, especially when it has been publicly affirmed, even amid the pressures of war.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the speaker (in context, a warrior bound by a vow) does not permit himself to withdraw from battle; he has continued to act exactly according to his earlier declaration, treating it as a daily obligation.
