Babhruvāhana’s Lament and Appeal for Expiation (प्रायश्चित्त-याचना)
उलूपी चिन्तयामास तदा संजीवनं मणिम् । स चोपातिष्ठत तदा पन्नगानां परायणम्
ulūpī cintayāmāsa tadā saṃjīvanaṃ maṇim | sa copātiṣṭhata tadā pannagānāṃ parāyaṇam ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: At that time Ulūpī reflected upon the Saṃjīvana jewel, the life-restoring gem. And as soon as she remembered it, that jewel—held to be the very refuge and sustaining support of the Nāgas—appeared there.

In the face of overwhelming sorrow and harmful resolve, dharma favors compassionate, life-preserving action. Ulūpī’s remembrance of the Saṃjīvana-maṇi symbolizes timely intervention to restore life and avert irreversible loss.
Ulūpī recalls the life-restoring Saṃjīvana jewel; upon being remembered, it immediately appears. The verse sets up the means by which a grave situation—born of grief and a vow unto death in the surrounding narrative—can be remedied.
