Saṃvarta uvāca: katham asmi tvayā jñātaḥ? kena vā kathito 'smi te? etad ācakṣva me tattvam icchase cen mama priyam.
Saṃvarta said: “How have you recognized me? Or by whom have you been told about me? If you truly wish to please me, then tell me this matter exactly as it is.”
संवर्त उवाच
The verse foregrounds ethical communication: before granting favor or cooperation, Saṃvarta demands truthful disclosure of how knowledge about him was obtained. It emphasizes transparency, honesty, and respect in approaching a revered or powerful figure.
In the Saṃvarta–Marutta episode, Saṃvarta questions the king about how he identified Saṃvarta and who informed him. The inquiry sets the tone for a serious request—connected with arranging a sacrifice—where the sage insists on hearing the exact truth before proceeding.
