Vaiśampāyana said: “O King, today itself is marked by an auspicious constellation and a holy day. Therefore, let us begin today our effort toward the most excellent rites. As for us, we shall remain here today taking only water; and you too should observe a fast today.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Righteous action is strengthened by discipline and proper observance: one should begin sacred duties at an auspicious time and support them with restraint (fasting, simplicity), aligning personal conduct with the gravity of the rite.
Vaiśampāyana reports that the speaker urges the king to commence the highest ritual actions immediately because the day and constellation are auspicious, and prescribes a water-only observance for themselves while instructing the king’s party to fast as part of the ritual preparation.
