Kṛṣṇa’s Departure, Auspicious Omens, and the Opening of the Uttaṅka Dialogue

dharma-rājasya bhavanaṁ jagmatuḥ paramārcitau | yatrāste sa sahāmātyo dharma-rājo mahābalaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: The two highly honoured ones—Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna—after their meal, when the night had passed and morning had come, performed the rites of the forenoon such as sandhyā-vandana and the like, and then went to the palace of King Dharma, Yudhiṣṭhira. There that mighty upholder of dharma dwelt with his ministers, in a court ordered by counsel, governance, and propriety.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dhārmic kingship: the righteous king is portrayed as residing with his ministers, emphasizing that power is exercised through counsel and orderly governance, and that honoured persons approach the royal household with propriety.

Two highly honoured figures go to King Yudhiṣṭhira’s residence, where he is staying together with his ministers, setting the stage for a courtly meeting within the framework of post-war administration and ethical rule.
