Adhyāya 42 — Mahābhūta–Indriya–Adhyātma-Vyavasthā
Brahmā’s Instruction on Elements and Faculties
हस्तावध्यात्ममित्याहुरध्यात्मविदुषो जना:
hastāv adhyātmam ity āhur adhyātmaviduṣo janāḥ
Vāyu-deva said: “The wise who know the inner Self declare that the ‘hands’ are to be understood as belonging to the realm of adhyātma—inner, spiritual meaning.”
वायुदेव उवाच
That bodily terms like “hands” can be read in an adhyātma (inner/spiritual) sense: the organs of action are to be understood as instruments governed by inner consciousness, and their true significance is grasped through self-knowledge.
Vāyu-deva is delivering a doctrinal statement, citing the view of adhyātma-knowers, and introducing an interpretive frame in which physical features are explained through inner, spiritual principles.
