Brahma-vidyā: Satya–Tapas and the Enumeration of Tattvas
Arjuna–Vāsudeva framed dialogue
yo vidvān sahasaṃvāsaṃ vivāsaṃ caiva paśyati | tathaivaikatva-nānātve sa duḥkhāt parimucyate ||
Vāyu said: “The wise person who truly perceives both association and separation—and likewise understands unity and diversity as they really are—becomes freed from sorrow.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Clear discernment of life’s opposites—union and separation, oneness and diversity—dissolves attachment and confusion; with that insight, sorrow no longer binds the mind.
In Ashvamedhika Parva, Vāyu speaks as a teacher, offering a reflective, philosophical instruction: the listener is urged to ‘see’ reality correctly, so that grief arising from changing relationships and shifting identities is overcome.
