Adhyāya 33: Brāhmaṇa-Upadeśa on Buddhi, Āśrama-Forms, and Inner Freedom
एक: पन्था ब्राह्मणानां येन गच्छन्ति तद्विद: । गृहेषु वनवासेषु गुरुवासेषु भिक्षुषु
ekaḥ panthā brāhmaṇānāṁ yena gacchanti tadvidaḥ | gṛheṣu vanavāseṣu guruvāseṣu bhikṣuṣu brahmacarye gārhasthye vānaprasthe ca saṁnyāse ca ||
The Brahmin said: “There is but one path for Brahmins who truly know Brahman—the path by which the wise proceed. Whether they dwell in homes, live in the forest, stay with a teacher, or live by alms; whether established in the āśramas of studenthood, householdership, forest-dwelling, or renunciation—those Brahmins who are knowers of Brahman move by a single, unified way.”
ब्राह्मण उवाच
That true spiritual realization (knowledge of Brahman) is not confined to a single external lifestyle. Across the four āśramas and varied modes of living, the Brahmavid’s essential path—rooted in inner discipline, right conduct, and realization—is one.
A Brahmin speaker is instructing the listener(s) by emphasizing the unity of the spiritual path for the wise: regardless of whether one lives as a student, householder, forest-dweller, or renunciant, the knower of Brahman follows the same fundamental way.
