When those qualities are in balance, that is said to be the mark of a sound and healthy mind. But if any one of them becomes excessive, a prescribed method is taught for its restraint and correction.

Mental well-being is characterized by balance among the inner qualities (guṇas). When one quality becomes dominant or excessive, one should apply a deliberate corrective discipline to restore equilibrium.
Vāyudeva is giving didactic instruction, defining the sign of a healthy state (svastha-lakṣaṇa) as the evenness of qualities, and indicating that specific remedies are taught when any one quality rises excessively.
