धृतराष्ट्रस्य पाण्डवेषु प्रीति-वृत्तान्तः | Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas
व्यायामश्नायमत्यर्थ कृतस्त्वामभियाचता । ततो ग्लानमनास्तात नष्टसंज्ञ इवाभवम्,तात! तुमसे अनुरोध करनेके लिये बोलते समय मुझे बड़ा भारी परिश्रम करना पड़ा है। अत: क्षीणशक्ति होकर मैं अचेत-सा हो गया था
vyāyāmaśnāyam atyarthaṃ kṛtas tvām abhiyācatā | tato glānamano 'smi tāta naṣṭasaṃjña iva abhavam ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “My child, in the very act of speaking to you and making my request, I had to exert myself excessively. Therefore my mind grew weary; my strength failed, and I became as though unconscious.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even a sincere request can demand great effort; the verse highlights human limitation and the need for patience and compassion toward those who are physically or mentally exhausted.
The speaker explains that while addressing the listener and making an earnest request, he overexerted himself and consequently became mentally fatigued and nearly unconscious.
