धृतराष्ट्रस्य पाण्डवेषु प्रीति-वृत्तान्तः | Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas
चतुर्थे नियते काले कदाचिदपि चाष्टमे
caturthe niyate kāle kadācid api cāṣṭame, kevalaṃ bubhukṣāgninivṛttyai alpaṃ āhāraṃ karomi; etan mama niyamaṃ kevalaṃ gāndhārī devī jānāti, anye tu sarve manyante yathāhaṃ pratidinaṃ pūrṇa-bhojanaṃ karomi.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “At times I take food only at the fixed fourth interval, and at times only at the eighth—merely to quench the fire of hunger I eat a little. Only Queen Gāndhārī knows of this discipline of mine; everyone else believes that I eat a full meal every day.”
