अश्रमवासिनां विषादः — Lament in Hastināpura after the Elders’ Forest Withdrawal
यन्मे समागमोउद्येह भवद्धिः सह साधुभि: । 'भगवन्! आज मैं धन्य हूँ, आपलोगोंकी कृपाका पात्र हूँ तथा मेरा यह जीवन भी सफल है; क्योंकि आज यहाँ आप-जैसे साधु-महात्माओंका समागम मुझे प्राप्त हुआ है
yān me samāgamo ’dyeha bhavadbhiḥ saha sādhubhiḥ | bhagavan, adya ahaṃ dhanyo ’smi, āpāṃ kṛpā-pātraṃ ca, tathā mama jīvitam api saphalaṃ; yato ’dya iha bhavat-sadṛśa-sādhu-mahātmānāṃ samāgamo me prāptaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “Blessed am I today—worthy of your compassion—and my life has borne fruit, for here and now I have obtained the company of you noble and saintly great souls.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse praises satsanga—association with the virtuous—as a supreme blessing that makes life meaningful, and it models humility and gratitude toward saintly elders.
The speaker expresses reverence and joy at meeting saintly persons, declaring himself blessed and his life fulfilled because of their presence and compassion.
